What a slot really means

HLP-VXXXMBN

Slots cause more confusion than any other concept in Promotion Pool, so this is the short version.

A slot is NOT

  • Impressions
  • Views
  • Clicks
  • Ad duration
  • A guaranteed CTR

A slot IS

One promotional position on the campaign landing page. Exactly like one card in a deal grid.

Worked example

A pool has 50 slots. The campaign goes live. The landing page renders 50 promotional cards (one per participant slot).

  • User A buys 5 slots: User A gets 5 cards on the landing page.
  • User B buys 1 slot: User B gets 1 card.
  • User C buys 3 slots: User C gets 3 cards.

All 9 cards belong to those three users, and the remaining 41 belong to other participants. Card order rotates per visitor so no slot is permanently first.

Why slots, not impressions

Impressions can be inflated, bot-driven, or unmeasurable on offline channels. A slot is a tangible artifact: a real piece of real estate on a real page. Participants know exactly what they are paying for.
